Publication of Volume 1, Issue 1 (February 2025)
It is with great enthusiasm that we present the inaugural issue of the Journal on Development of Intellectual Property and Research (JDIPR), a pioneering international platform dedicated to advancing legal and policy discourse in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Technology Law. As the first non-governmental research journal in India solely focused on IPR, CDIPR seeks to bridge the gap between legal scholarship, industry practices, and technological innovation in an increasingly digital and knowledge-driven economy.
This issue brings together a diverse range of perspectives from distinguished academicians, legal professionals, and researchers across South Asia and beyond. The selected articles delve into critical contemporary challenges such as:
- Gaps in patenting indigenous medicinal knowledge and the risks of biopiracy (Case Study: Kani Tribe and Jeevani Herb).
- Comparative legal frameworks for Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) and FRAND obligations in India and the European Union.
- The intersection of AI and copyright laws, exploring how emerging technologies challenge traditional IP frameworks.
- Counterfeiting and IP enforcement challenges in South and Southeast Asia, with insights from global regulatory approaches.
- Ethical and legal dilemmas in biotechnological innovation, particularly in the patenting of genetic materials.
At JDIPR, we are committed to fostering rigorous academic inquiry and cross-border collaboration in intellectual property research. With contributions from leading scholars from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and the USA, this issue reflects a truly global outlook on intellectual property governance.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our editorial board, peer reviewers, and student editors for their invaluable contributions in shaping this issue. A special appreciation is also due to our authors, whose insightful research has set the foundation for JDIPR as a thought leader in IPR discourse.
As we embark on this journey, we invite academicians, policymakers, industry experts and students to engage with JDIPR, contribute to future issues, and collectively advance the discourse on intellectual property rights in an era of rapid technological change.
With best regards,
